Refine tips Friday, January 28, 2011

First, an explanation of the effects of refining.

Weapon refinement obviously increases the basic ranged attack values for Phys and Mag attack. It raises the maximum of both the upper and lower value.

Armor works slightly different. Refining adds the following to each equipment (Higher grade equipment refined = greater bonus):

HP enhance
Helmet
Upper armor
Lower armor
Gauntlets
Boots
Cloak

Phys. Def. enhance
Rings

Necklaces and WaistAdorns (sachets) have odd properties as I believe, when refined, enhance their distinct strength, such as a mag def necklace will have increased mag def when refined, but not dodge or phys def. Get it?

Anyways, let's say you've used a helmet with +2 refinement on it and 10 levels later, you can use the next grade helmet. You have two options:

1. Use Shiftless Chang to move the refinement from this helmet to the other (you lose your previous refinement value, even if only shift up by a value of +1 from the previous).

2. Invest in Mirage stones and helper stones (preferably Draco pearls) to refine from the beginning.

Now to explain the cost of refining. (I will not be including cost of Mirage stones as they are easily obtained through quests or as extras in HH runs.)

One Star draco pearls are available through item mall by getting gold eggs, however the easiest and cheaper way is to find a AFK stall that sells the draco pearls under the current cost to buy cubi gold. The cheapest I have seen is right next to the Synth Master in ADC West selling from between 85k to 110k which is a good deal.
--------------------------------------

AFK stall price for *Draco = 85k-110k

1 star = 1 star
2 star = 4x 1 star = 340k-440k
3 star = 2x 2 star + 2x 1 star = 10x 1 star = 850k-1.1mil
4 star = 2x 3 star + 1x 2 star + 1x 1star = 25 1 star = 2.125mil-2.75mil
5 star = 2x 4 star + 1x 3 star = 60x 1 star
6 star = 2x 5 star + 1x 3 star = 130x 1 star
7 star = 1x 4 star + 1x 5 star + 1x 6 star = 215x 1 star
8 star = 1x 5 star + 1x 6 star + 1x 7 star = 405x 1 star
9 star = 1x 6 star + 1x 7 star + 1x 8 star = 750x 1 star

--------------------------------------
1 Fortune Stone = 50 Cubicoins or approx. 72000 gold
10 Fortune stones = 4.5 cubigold or approx. 652500 gold

Shift +1 refine = 1 Fortune Stone = 72k
Shift +2 refine = 5 Fortune Stones = 360k
Shift +3 refine = 12 Fortune Stones = 864k
Shift +4 refine = 36 Fortune Stones = 2.592mil
Shift +5 refine = 60 Fortune Stones = 4.32mil

Because of Shiftess Chang, someone could very easily make LOTS of money from fortune stones. I am going to give it a try in an AFK stall sometime.
--------------------------------------

Previous refinements are not taken into account as far as Fortune stones are concerned. Lame. This means they cannot be conserved by pre-pumping refinement and using less stones if converting from, say, +2 to +5. It will still cost 60 due to the high refine level. Anyways, as you can see the prices come out fairly even. In the long run, I still feel it is

better to shift the refinement rather than start from scratch. If you are selling the item with the refinement and not shifting, definetly ask for more $$ now as you can see the cost for refinement.

Of course, you CAN ignore all of the above and try your luck getting tips from Duke of Deer who mentions the best elder to refine to whatever level the Duke specifies. Good luck with that.

Last note: Here are the Duke of Deer Tips on refining. Thing is, to use a governer to do anything, you need to own the land of the respective governer.

Just to add some more info...maybe not so very known..About using others different stones during refine.

Ok, as i know there:
* TerraMalefic Stone
* EtherBarrier Stone
* Fortune Stone

and of course the Dragon orbs.

As was mentioned before Fortune stone can be even used to shift the refine lvl on one equip to another. It even can be used during refining. Good point is, that Fortune stone prevent the item from dropping any level at all with failure, but also rapidly reduce the sucess. (will see later in the tab).

TerraMalefic Stone sligtly improve the sucess rate and with failure it drop down by 1 level.

EtherBarrier Stone increase the chance rapidly, but when you failure the refine it acts like with only mirages. So you drop to refine level 0.

Here you can see the rates with using only mirages and the stones:

How to use the stones? Just put it in the specific slot when you refine. There one in which you put what you want refine and the second is for if you wanna use any of these stones.

Little note about Dragon orbs. Of course to get the 100% sucess rate on refining you need to use appropriate level of the orb, i.e., to refine +4 you need to use dragon orb lvl 4. Next tab show how much orbs lvl 1 you need to get higher lvl by the synthesize:

With the price 50 cubi-coin per 1*Orb.
